I led off my original Prospect Spotlight of Angel Genao like this:

The Guardians’ farm system is loaded with talent. I elected not to choose Cleveland’s top two prospects Travis Bazzana and Chase DeLauter for an opportunity to highlight a lesser-known prospect.

Both DeLauter and Bazzana have found success at the Major League level in Cleveland, and Genao is next in line. He began 2026 in Double-A Akron, hitting .271 in the first 24 games of the season with 3 homers and 11 RBIs, walking more than he struck out.

Genao was called up to Triple-A Colombus on May 5th, and in the 56 games that followed his promotion, he’s proven that he may be ready for the Majors SOON. He’s hitting .308 with a .389 on-base percentage, 15 doubles, 7 homers, 28 RBIs, 27 walks and 6 stolen bases.

It the previous Spotlight post, I compared Genao to Jose Ramirez and former Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez. but there’s one name that I didn’t bring up the first time, mostly because Genao does not have the power that Lindor does. But I’m sure if you told the Guardians a few years ago when they said goodbye to Lindor that they would get a Lindor-lite back in their system, they’d be thrilled.

I previously said that I could see Angel Genao as great lineup protection for Jose Ramirez, and I still believe that. With as well as he’s hitting in Triple-A, I think it’s a forgone conclusion that Genao WILL be in Cleveland this season. The Guardian may wait until rosters expand to call up their #2 prospect, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was earlier. A season ago, Cleveland called up Chase DeLauter for their Postseason run. This time around, I FULLY believe Genao will join fellow rookies Travis Bazzana and Chase DeLauter on Cleveland Postseason lineup card in October.
