Look away, Phillies fans. this Prospect Spotlight update will be short and disappointing.

Aidan Miller is Philadelphia’s top prospect in 2026, but that’s where the good news ends. He suffered a back injury and has not played this season. He was on track to play the entire season in Triple-A Lehigh Valley after going 9-27 with one homer, 2 doubled and 9 walks in eight games with the team to end the 2025 campaign.

Miller underwent a procedure in June to address the issue, and the team is hopeful that he can return to game action in 6-8 weeks. So, if there is any good news in all of this, it’s that there is a CHANCE we see Aidan Miller on the field in 2026. The expected recovery timeline puts Miller on the field in late July or early August, but around the time of the procedure, when asked about Miller’s injury, Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski stated that they expect their top prospect to be ready for Spring Training, calling the situation “very complicated”.

If I had to guess, I’d imagine this timeline is more accurate. This has been a nagging issue for Miller, and while this procedure should fix the issue, you don’t want to rush these things. Back injuries can be debilitating, and if you don’t give it proper time to heal, it can affect Miller for his whole career. Philadelphia fans don’t want that.

I would slow play this. MAKE SURE he’s good to go before putting him back on the field. If that means holding him out until Spring Training, so be it. If the organization insists on getting him back out there as soon as they can in order to get game reps, I’d use him as a DH. Let him focus on getting his swing back without the added stress of playing shortstop on his body.

Before the season, a big league call-up was on the table. Now, it’s just about getting him right. Philadelphia is fine. There are plenty of great prospects progressing in their system. Getting Aidan Miller back on the field should not be a priority for the Phillies organization in 2026. Proper recovery should be. Given the initial timeline, Miller could be back on a lineup card by the time this update is released…

…but that doesn’t mean he should be.
