At 19 years old, Cam Caminiti began the 2026 season at the High-A level in Rome. This year has been a bit of a struggle for the Braves’ top prospect, as he’s posted a 1-3 record with a 4.48 ERA over 62.1 innings. Caminiti has struggled against right-handers this season, allowing a .293 average, but has dominated lefties, holding them to just .169.

Fortunately for Caminiti and the Braves, there’s no rush in development. He spent much of 2025 recovering from a forearm injury and building back strength.

He looked good in his last start (as of writing this) on June 28th against Greensboro, allowing just one earned run in 5 innings and striking out 5 with plenty of swings and misses. The Braves were keeping an eye on a slight wrist problem earlier in June, but their appears to be no real concern on their part. It was also announced that Caminiti would take part in the 2026 All-Star Futures Game in Philadelphia. It’s a huge accomplishment for the #45 prospect in baseball, who will be the lone representative for the organization in the contest.

The real question is: will Caminiti be a Brave on August 4th? As of this moment, the Atlanta Braves are believed to be the favorites to land Tarik Skubal if the Tigers decide to trade him, and if they do and the Braves are buying, I have a hard time believing that they could land him without sacrificing their top prospect in return.

In the initial Prospect Spotlight of Caminiti, I mentioned that if he continued to build strength, he could hit 100 MPH regularly. The arm injuries have slowed that growth down a bit as he builds back up, but whether he continues to develop in the Braves system or the Tigers, Caminiti will be just fine, and I still like my initial comp of Billy Wagner.
