Basically, since the days of Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson, the Los Angeles Angels have been starved for starting pitching. They’ve been starved for a lot of things since Mike Trout showed up on the scene, only managing to put a playoff roster around Mike Trout once in his career. They’ve taken big swings (Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Anthony Rendon) and had opportunities (Shohei Ohtani), but that all ended up being bad contracts or, in the case of Ohtani, a waste of generational talent.
Enter Tyler Bremner: one of the best pitching prospects the Angels have had in years. LA’s lone Top 100 prospect leading into 2026 features a 3-pitch mix who can command all of them for strikes consistently. His fastball tops out at 98, the mid-80s changeup boasted a 48% miss rate in 2025, and the upper-80s slider missed at a 33% rate. His changeup was viewed as the best in his draft class, and he’s comfortable throwing it at any time, which bodes well as a weapon to keep hitters off balance.
There’s room for growth in his frame, so there’s reason to believe that he can add more velocity to his arsenal. Personally, with his plus ability to control his pitches, I see room for Bremner to add a fourth pitch. I’d suggest a cutter or a sinker, which mitigate the way that the ball carries well in the warm weather of the summer months.
Bremner has an easy, repeatable delivery. I see shades of early Clay Buchholz with a bigger leg kick. He has yet to prove that he can handle the workload and length required to be a top-of-the-line starter in the Show over the course of a 162-game season, but the organization is confident that he can get there. Some have also compared him to Zack Wheeler, more due to his stuff than his delivery. Coincidentally, Wheeler utilizes a cutter, so the line of possibility has been drawn.
Being a college draft pick, the Angels will likely accelerate Bremner. He was drafted 2nd overall in the 2025 Draft, so he spent last season in rookie ball, but he is projected to reach the Big Leagues at some point in 2026. Given that the Angels were one of the worst pitching units across the board in 2025, they can use all the help they can get.
