The White Sox Are Still Searching for Direction
2025 was another frustrating year on the South Side.
Chicago ranked near the bottom of baseball in…most categories.
What I will give them credit for, and credit must be given, is improvement. The White Sox may still be a LONG way away from playing meaningful baseball, but they are improving – and that’s clear.
From 41-121 in 2024 to 60-102 in 2025. That’s a 19-win improvement from a historically bad season.

They have a lot of young, exciting talent to build off of. Colson Montgomery, Brooks Baldwin, Kyle Teel and Chase Meidroth infuse this lineup with youth and hope, but it was Lenyn Sosa that led the team in several meaningful offensive categories: average (.264), homers (22), RBIs (75) and hits (137).
The offseason was busy for the South Siders, and while none of these moves can be classified as anything other than modest, it seems that Chicago is confident in this young core. Fore an organization that’s been searching for a direction for so long, it seems like they might have finally found one, and they showed the league this offseason that they’re ready to add support.

Are any of these moves gonna set the world on fire? No. But just a couple of years removed from reports of a toxic organization culture and one year removed from the worst season of all-time, we’re seeing signs of life. They also have 5 of baseball’s Top 100 prospects, three of which are expected to see the field in Chicago at some point this coming season. I’d also be remised if I didn’t highlight one of those three: the 6’10” 240lbs behemoth Noah Schultz possesses an above average fastball and a premium slider.
Does Schultz remind the Sox of another tall lefty with a killer slider that once called Chicago home? If he has even half the career that Chris Sale has had, I’m sure the White Sox will be thrilled.
Biggest Need Entering 2026:
Time and patience. I see the vision. A veteran starting pitcher to help cement the culture reset would be good to.
Have They Addressed It?
They’ve chosen a direction and added depth. What more can you ask for?
Empire Take:
Chicago’s young talent feels energized. More help is on the way from the pipeline. Look, the Chi Sox still have a long way to go, but they’re going in the right direction. 2024 to 2025 saw a 19-game improvement, and based on the moves they did make, and the chemistry that seems to be forming under manager Will Venable, I don’t think it’s out of the question to see something similar in 2026.
If I’m right, that would put them at 79-83. White Sox fans: would you take that?
